Wood Finishing – How to Stain Wood

So you’ve decided to stain your finished project.

But how?

It’s simple, my friend. Stain is one of the most common finishes for home DIYers, right up there with paint. It’s wonderful for enhancing the natural grains of wood, as well as toning the wood to a desired color. Stain is also great for refinishing and updating wood … more on that later.

There are a few necessary steps to staining, but a lot of the process is sort of choose-your-own-adventure.…

Dark Walnut Shaker Blanket Chest

My sister was visiting recently and noticed the storage chest I built for our living room last spring. She’s been in need of more storage space at her place and loved the chest, so I volunteered to build her one!

It’s similar to our storage chest but with slightly different details in order to match her home decor. Plus, I wanted to try something new!

So here it is! Blanket chest #3 for Bitterroot DIY and a perfect Christmas present for my sister!…

Ice Fishing Rod Rack – Easiest Fishing Rod Rack in the History of Ever

Joseph’s favorite. favorite. favorite. hobby is ice fishing. No joke. He spends hours organizing his gear, mapping all the lakes, is a super active member of lakestatefishing.com … the whole 9 yards. This year I am lucky enough to be participating in a Christmas tablescape blog hop with 8 other talented bloggers! If you’re stopping by from the hop, welcome and don’t forget to visit the other bloggers linked below!

I like to focus on building here at Bitterroot DIY, so I whipped up a cute sled centerpiece for this hop. It only took about half an hour to make … and I even did it twice since it completely fell apart after the first attempt (don’t ask…)

So, about a year ago I promised Joseph I’d build us a set of matching nightstands …

They were supposed to be my second build.

I’m only 1 year behind.

I guess I can’t complain too much next time I ask him to do something and he takes a year to get around to it …

Ahhhh, marriage 😉
