Dark Walnut Shaker Blanket Chest

My sister was visiting recently and noticed the storage chest I built for our living room last spring. She’s been in need of more storage space at her place and loved the chest, so I volunteered to build her one!

It’s similar to our storage chest but with slightly different details in order to match her home decor. Plus, I wanted to try something new!

So here it is! Blanket chest #3 for Bitterroot DIY and a perfect Christmas present for my sister!…

Rough Cedar Rustic Blanket Chest

Rough Cedar Rustic Blanket Chest

We were out visiting my family the other weekend when my mom started discussing all her plans for updating and improving my childhood home. Let me tell ya, she’s got some great ideas up her sleeves! As she was going over all the updates for the master bedroom, she happened to offhandedly mention that she’s been shopping around for a blanket chest …

I have to be honest here: When I first made the lid for my blanket chest, I messed up the dimensions and it ended up a little small. But it was already finished and perfect and wonderful before I discovered the mistake … oops …

Ever since we moved into our townhouse, we’ve been slowly adding to our furniture collection. One of the biggest necessities has been more storage space. In the living room, we’ve been just piling nicely folding blankets and leaving them out on the couch. It works, but we were ready for a more organized space. So I decided to make the blankets their very own home – the DIY storage chest.

Finally a place for all that fluffy blanket goodness!…

Crate Shelves

When we first moved into our townhouse, we decided to put a little movie-watching relaxation station in the upstairs of the house. There was this perfect inset that fit a loveseat opposite a nice wall which we could mount the TV on. We’re not big TV people and wanted to keep the downstairs family room more of a gathering place rather than have it overrun with a TV. So putting everything upstairs worked great! However, the downstairs family room area had a cove cut into the wall specifically for a TV. It took me quite a while to figure out what to do with this space, but I eventually decided to put together some super simple shelving. Here’s a quick project if you want to add a little spice…or space…to a room!…

Farmhouse Coffee Table

The coffee table…this is where it all started. If  you haven’t stopped by my about page yet, I go into a little more detail there about why I decided to build this table in the first place. If you’re interested, take a gander over there for a minute to get more of the back story. If you’re ready to read the super cursory rendition of how the whole project went down…keep scrolling……
