Joseph’s favorite. favorite. favorite. hobby is ice fishing. No joke. He spends hours organizing his gear, mapping all the lakes, is a super active member of lakestatefishing.com … the whole 9 yards. Last year when ice fishing season ended in March, he started talking about how he was excited for this year’s season. And this year, he’s already been out twice and it’s only December. Granted, only once on actual ice … the other time he was in a canoe breaking through the ice …

Don’t ask … I don’t always get it …
Point is – the guy loves his ice fishing.
So the other weekend he decided it was time to build a rack to store his ice fishing rods.
Easiest fishing rod rack I’ve ever seen. It’s simple and to-the-point.
All you need is a spare board, drill, and a 1-1/4″ bit.
Tools & Supplies:
- Drill
- 1-1/4″ Spade Bit (double check the size with the size of your fishing poles)
- Corner Braces
- Miter Saw
- Orbital Sander
- Tape Measure
- Square
- Pencil
- Safety Glasses
- Hearing Protection
Cuts:
- 1 | 1/2″ x 3″ @ 32″
Step 1.
Cut your board to length. We had an extra 1/2″ x 3″ aspen board lying around, but any spare board will do the trick. The length isn’t super important either. 32″ is how long the spare board happened to be. Make it however big or small you need depending on your fishing pole collection.
Step 2.
Mark the center-line all the way down the length of the board. Measure and mark every 3″ along the center-line, which is a good spacing for the reels to fit comfortably next to each other. Drill holes along the center of the board at each 3″ mark.
Step 3.
Sand until smooth. Finish if desired.
We left it unfinished since it’s just hanging in the garage.
Step 4.
Attach to the wall with corner brackets and fill with ice fishing rods.
And there you have your brand new ice fishing rod rack!
Just a heads up – this rack is best used for ice fishing rods since they’re short. Normal fishing poles would be a little top-heavy and wouldn’t sit nicely.
Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
