X Base Square Farmhouse Dining Table

Good Morning and Happy Monday 🙂

The kitchen is really starting to come together now! We hit a minor snag last week (read: kind of significant disaster) BUUUT. it’s all under control now 😉 Just a few final details to finish up. It’s a jam-packed week ahead: full of playing with Weston, painting and trimming walls, and wrapping big wood beams. All the best things!

As I was working on the renovation, I got to thinking – we really should build a new dining room table to go with the new kitchen! The ol’ junker that Joseph and I picked up from Craigslist when we first got married just won’t cut it anymore 😉

Plus we only have two and a half chairs left … we lost one a few months ago when someone (I’m not naming names, Joseph) leaned a little too far back and the whole thing crumbled. And there are random pieces falling off one of the other three.

So, yes. It’s time for an upgrade.

The dining room space is really small in our house (about 10’x6′) and is right in the kitchen, so we needed something compact. The square works perfectly! I went back and forth between square or round, but I like the clean lines of the square. It creates clear walking paths and keeps the chairs in their designated areas a little better than a round table.

Once I finish the last couple walls and trim this week, the table is headed to it’s new home in the dining room.

*happy dance*

It’s so fun to see all the pieces falling into place!

Looks great! Thinking of building this for my daughters apartment. One question on the table top: are you screwing each individual board directly into the leg frame from the top? The plans mentioned using L brackets so the top can be removed. However it seems to me like removing the top means unscrewing all the individual top boards. I must be misunderstanding.

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you! I did not attach each individual board to the leg frame. I build the top separately and then attached it to the legs with brackets on the bottom. So the top boards are all joined together with pocket holes, the base (legs, frame, bottom x) are joined together with pocket holes, and then the top is simply set on top of the legs and attached with L brackets. Does that help?
